Sector Briefing:

Natural Resource Management (NRM) refers to the sustainable utilization of major natural resources, such as land, water, air, minerals, forests, fisheries, and wild flora and fauna. Together, these resources provide the ecosystem services that provide better quality to human life.

In Balochistan, majority of the rural population is poverty stricken coupled with degradation of agricultural and range lands where water is the scarcest natural resource for domestic and agriculture purpose. The pressure on natural resources particularly water has potentially been aggravated by the advancement in water extraction techniques such as solar powered tube wells.

BRSP’s objectives under Natural Resource Management are aligned with SDG 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

  • Improve Water Conservation and Recharge Structures.
  • Improve Water Management
  • Adequately harness, conserve and use water to improve the lives of the local communities
  • Promote behavior change in communities
  • Enhanced support for communities to promote knowledge and behavior change for better water usage.
