Summary
BRSP is implementing the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP) in districts Jhal Magsi and Usta Muhammad (Lot 6) and Sohbatpur (Lot 10). This strategic initiative is supported by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Government of Pakistan, with financial assistance from the World Bank. The project comes at a crucial time, following the catastrophic floods of 2022—one of the worst natural disasters in Pakistan’s history, triggered by unprecedented monsoon rains and intensified by climate change. Balochistan’s Naseerabad Division was among the hardest hit. The disaster displaced thousands of families, destroyed homes and livelihoods, and severely disrupted access to clean water, healthcare, education, and energy in already underserved communities.
In response, IFRAP aims to restore essential services, strengthen community resilience, and reduce future flood risks through integrated and climate-adaptive approaches. The project focuses on improving livelihoods and reconstructing climate-resilient housing to guide and sustain recovery efforts. By engaging communities through conducting reverification of damage assessments, formation and capacity building of Village/Community Reconstruction Committees (V/CRCs), constructing approximately climate-resilient houses, and establishing a Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM), the project is designed to build back better. Ultimately, IFRAP represents a significant step toward a more resilient and sustainable future for the flood-affected populations of Balochistan.
