Summary
Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) complementing the efforts of the government of Balochistan and in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 “Quality Education” is promoting education through different projects in far-flung areas of Balochistan. Currently, the literacy rate in the province is 44% which is the lowest in the whole country. The estimated number of out-of-school children in the province is 1.91 million, which comprises 78% girls and 64% boys. The SDG 4 goal of “ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all” is a requirement for national growth and prosperity. BRSP understands the critical importance of education.
BRSP in collaboration with the Education Department, Government of Balochistan is extending quality education in formal and non-formal systems. BRSP has incorporated the Accelerated Learning Pathway (ALP) into madaris curriculum to mainstream students into formal education and provides them with the opportunity to pursue higher education along with acquiring vocational skills trainings. In addition, BRSP has implemented an Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALN) programme exclusively for rural women that enabled them to participate actively in income-generating activities and feel socially empowered.
